GRAND RAPIDS GUTTER INSTALLATION | DOWNSPOUTS & SEAMLESS RAIN GUTTERS

ALL ABOUT GUTTERS: FIVE INCHES OR SIX INCHES UNDERSTANDING THE PROS AND CONS OF GUTTER STYLES

When it comes to your home, you always want to make the most informed decisions, no matter whether you’re dealing with the interior or the exterior. As Grand Rapids’ downspout and gutter installation experts, we can help you understand the differences between the most common seamless gutter sizes – five-inch and six-inch rain gutters – and which is right for your home.

Here in Grand Rapids, the downspout that is most common is the five-inch k-style. This is the gutter size and style that has been around for decades, but is it still the best option? As the go-to gutter installation pros in Grand Rapids, we have to admit that the five-inch gutter system is often not sufficient for many homes today. Smaller rain gutters might not be a huge issue in regions that don’t get large amounts of moisture, but here in Grand Rapids, we usually get entirely too much moisture—insufficient gutters might struggle to keep up.

SIX-INCH GUTTERS: GO BIG OR GO HOME

When we’re talking about rain gutter installation in Grand Rapids, bigger is always going to be better. Our six-inch seamless gutters are not only bigger, they’re thicker and stronger than the run-of-the-mill five-inch residential house gutters.
Additionally, they can deal with up to 50% more water. What’s more, six-inch gutters come with larger downspouts that dispense water up to four times more rapidly than traditional downspouts. Grand Rapids homeowners have found the benefits of larger gutters are obvious:

  1. Handles up to 50% More Water
  2.
  3. Includes 3”X 4” Downspouts
  4.
  5. Offers a Variety of Color Options
  6.
  7. Rapidly Discharges Water
COMMON SIGNS YOUR GUTTERS MIGHT NEED REPLACED:
  1. Leaky Miters or Malfunctioning End Caps
  2. Apparent Gutter Cracking or Splitting
  3. Peeling or Chipping Paint
  4. Pooled Water or Mildew at Foundation
  5. Water Damage Detected Under Gutters
  6. Gutters that Sag or Pull Away from Home

THE RESULTS ARE IN!

What are Seamless Gutters?

Seamless Gutters have fewer seams and joints in the gutters and downspouts, which leads to less chance of leaking. The product is stronger than a standard gutter system because it’s not made of multiple parts. This allows it to withstand heavy loads and strong winds.

Why should I replace my gutters?

Needing to replace your gutters can happen for a variety of reasons. Leaky gutters or gutters that hold water can be an issue. Gutters that look or or worn out can make your house look less appealing. Old gutters may not drain properly or may be tearing away from the home. Some old gutters are bent and cannot be repaired, causing clogs and other draining issues. You may desire a new set of gutters to match the style or house color you’re looking for.

Do I need 5 or 6 gutters?

6-inch gutters are less likely to get clogged up because they can handle more water flow, and they come with a bigger outlet. If you have a small home with a roof that isn’t very steep, 5” gutters will suffice. Otherwise, go for 6” gutters. The size of your home, the amount of rain your property receives per year, the trees around your home, the materials needed for great performance, the gutter style and gutter color are all factors when choosing which gutter product to use.

How long does a basic gutter job take?

Gutter installation takes less than one day in most circumstances but depending on the size and configuration of your building, it can take up to a couple of days.

How much do gutters cost?

8$ to 16$. Depending on the size (5 or 6 inch), how many stories and difficulty of the project.
