Cellulose insulation installation in Mt. Pleasant MI and across Isabella County takes two primary forms at Energy Plus Home Improvements: blown attic insulation for the ceiling plane and dense pack wall cellulose for existing exterior walls. Same recycled-paper material, completely different installation methods and densities.
Pre-inspection: check for disconnected bath fans venting into the attic, moisture staining, existing insulation depth, and any knob-and-tube wiring in older Mt. Pleasant homes. Air sealing at all top plates and penetrations comes before insulation — unsealed bypasses reduce effectiveness 30 to 40 percent regardless of R-value. Ventilation baffles at every rafter bay along the eave maintain soffit-to-ridge airflow required by Michigan code. Blowing cellulose at R-3.8 per inch to specified depth with depth stake confirmation — a 1,500 sq ft Isabella County attic from R-19 to R-49 takes two to four hours.
Dense pack delivers R-13 in an uninsulated 2×4 exterior wall without removing drywall or siding. Access holes 2-inch diameter are drilled from exterior through siding or from interior through drywall at each stud bay. A filling tube inserts the full depth of the cavity. Cellulose is packed at 3.5 lbs per cubic foot — versus 1.5 lbs for attic applications — tight enough to prevent settling through decades of Isabella County thermal cycling. The tube withdraws as the cavity fills from bottom up. Holes are patched and finished.
